Audioholics
Most South African audio shops are either selling supermarket headphones or pushing boutique gear at collector markups with no middle ground.
That's the space Audioholics has carved out. Real audio brands that sound better than mass-market but don't require deep pockets.
What they do
Audioholics is a South African hi-fi and home audio retailer stocking speakers, amplifiers, headphones, turntables and audio components from established global brands. With a physical showroom and online presence at audioholics.co.za, the model focuses on delivering quality audio at prices that make the hobby accessible without requiring investment-level spend.
The approach centres on listening and matching, since every setup sounds different in a real room. Audioholics maintains a demo environment where you can hear speakers and systems before committing. Upgrading from cheap desktop speakers or building a multiroom audio system, either way it's worth seeing what deals are currently happening in Electronics, Games & Gadgets on The Real Deal.
What to look at first
Living Room and Study Speakers
Passive and powered speakers for lounge and bedroom setups, the core of a home audio system.
Best for: stepping up from laptop or phone speakers to something with depth and detail.
Home Cinema and Soundbars
Audio solutions tuned for TV and film: dialogue clarity, surround staging, subwoofer integration.
Best for: people who want sound that matches their screen without running wires into the walls.
Headphones and Portable Audio
Quality headphone options across price tiers (over-ear, on-ear, in-ear), plus portable speakers.
Best for: personal listening, commuters, people who want better sound in a portable form.
Turntables and Vinyl Accessories
Record players, preamps and supporting gear for the vinyl hobby and serious collectors.
Best for: people building a physical music collection who care about the listening ritual.
Amplifiers and Separates
Integrated and separate component amps for custom audio builds and multiroom systems.
Best for: audiophiles fine-tuning a system or running audio across multiple rooms.
Simple way to think about it:
If you want better room sound, start with speakers.
If you love vinyl, browse turntables first.
Before you fill the cart, it's worth checking if there are any live Audioholics deals on The Real Deal before buying.
What makes them different
The demo space is the main advantage. You hear speakers in an actual room before buying instead of guessing online. What sounds warm in one ear sounds dull in another, and bedroom speakers might sound thin in a lounge.
The brand selection also matters. Audioholics carries a mixed range from budget to boutique, so you step up gradually instead of jumping from R200 earbuds to R3,000 headphones.
