Now that you have some extra time on your hands you may as well use it effectively and get creative with these hair masks. A nationwide lockdown doesn’t have to leave you feeling stressed or less than your best.

Many are complaining about how the self-isolation is leaving them feeling drab. After all, you’re not going anyway so there’s no need to get dolled up. True. But there other ways you can stay feeling fresh. And let’s be honest…do we really need a reason to look cute?

We all know there’s nothing like a good hair day to boost your confidence. Whether you need it for your pre-wedding relaxation and pampering session, or for a pick-me-up during the lockdown, a hair mask is a perfect cure!

Five hair masks that you can do yourself and that will leave you looking amazing

1. Masks For dry hair

What you should use: Honey, egg, and apple cider vinegar

The Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Rub the mask into your scalp. Leave in for 30 mins – 40 mins. This treatment is one that nourishes. It should work on all hair types. N.B. If you enjoy the mask and would like another, just double up the recipe.

2. For a flakey scalp

What you should use: Coconut oil, sugar, and essential oil

The Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of raw unrefined coconut oil
  • 4 teaspoons of raw sugar
  • 5 drops of peppermint oil
  • 2 drops of tea tree oil

Directions: Mix the ingredients together in a bowl. Make sure your hair is clean and dry before you begin. Using your fingertips or a hair colouring brush, apply the mixture directly to your hair. Apply evenly and then gently massage for 1 to 3 minutes. Allow it to sit for the rest of your shower and then rinse.

3. For oily hair: Egg and lemon 

The Ingredients:

  • 1 egg (use only the egg white)
  • 1/2 lemon

Directions: Mix the ingredients together until they are smooth, then apply to damp hair starting from the scalp and making your way down. Once all your hair is covered, tie it up and cover with a shower cap. After about 30 to 45 minutes rinse your hair with shampoo and conditioner. To kick this recipe up a notch, you can also add 1 cup of coconut milk and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

4. For damaged hair

What you should use: Coconut oil, avocado, and honey

The Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 eggs
  • 1tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

Directions: Mash the avocado, then add the eggs, honey, and oil. Once mixed, apply to your hair from starting from the root and making your way down. Let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes and rinse.

5. For shinier hair

What you should use: coconut oil, strawberry, and honey

The Ingredients:

  •  6 – 8 fresh strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Directions: Blend the ingredients until you’re left with a puree, then apply it evenly to damp hair. After about 10 minutes, rinse your hair with warm water.
